I'm a military police officer in the US Army Reserve, and I recently finished Linda Fischer's book. It was a riveting read, not only because I was on active duty at the same time as Linda, but because her book outlines in excruciating detail how "the system" really does fail the victims of abuse. I hope the word gets out that changes are needed, particularly in the area of providing confidential counseling. Linda is very lucky that she was able to solve her own situaiton eventually -- I doubt that most people would have the personal support network and ability to resolve things successfully as she has.
